Don LaFontaine, voice of film trailers, dies at 68

A voice that has been in 5,000 movie trailers and thousands of T.V. commercials is silent. Don LaFontaine died Monday, known for his catch phrase “In a world where…” Over the past several years, his name and face became known in a Geico and a New York Lottery commercial spot.
He is survived by his wife Nita Whitaker and three daughters.
Move Over MySpace, “Facebook The Movie” in Works

Sources are saying that Aaron Sorkin will be writing a movie about Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, the Variety is reporting. Though not yet approved by Zuckerberg or Facebook, the story will be about of how Facebook was started. They story will take place during the time when Zuckerberg was in Harvard in 2004 and created Facebook as a school project; including the story of how Facebook is in legal trouble with ConnectU.Sorkin has written screenplays for “The West Wing.”If approved, Columbia pictures will film the production.
Major Accident on Sunrise Highway

Another major accident on Sunrise Highway on Long Island at the Oakdale Connetquot merge. The vehicle involved with the accident is a tractor trailer, which overturned and knocked down a power line which supplied power to Oakdale and some parts of Bohemia. According to WRAJ Internet Radio, which has been keeping track of major accidents and road closures since 2005, says that this is the worst its seen this year, while reporting 32 accidents this year so far, which a few caused road closures.
This resulted in road closures and power failures. And for the fourth time this year, the eastbound and westbound was closed. The road was reopened sometime after 7pm but was closed again into the late night. At our 1:30am inspection of Sunrise Highway this morning, the highway is still closed from exit 46 to exit 49 eastbound and westbound, according to officials.
Vidgle’s and WRAJ Internet Radio’s offices lost power instantly after the crash at around 3:30pm Thursday. According to Maria O’Connell, WRAJ Internet Radio’s relations director, said that it caused the headquarters of WRAJ and Vidgle to have no power for over 7 hours. “The lightpole that was hit by the tractor trailer is only 10 poles down the street from us,” O’Connell added. The light pole that was hit is the lead pole for cables to cross the 8 lanes of traffic of Sunrise Highway. “The power company and Verizon also had to replace their cable from the lead pole.”
WRAJ Internet Radio also identified of what might be the location of the accident, as seen above. The location is the on-ramp from Pond Road to Sunrise Highway westbound. WRAJ Internet Radio reported similar accidents like this in the past when the light pole was hit in 2006 and 2007. WRAJ Internet Radio is assuming, by previous similar accidents, that the tractor trailer was on the service road and lost control at the fork of the service road; in which one way leads to a stop sign to Pond Road South so drivers can get back onto Sunrise Highway or to go northbound onto Pond Road leading to Sycamore Avenue.

Hey guys! While typing this the con isn’t over yet. My feet hurt so I’m resting up and figured I could type a blog entry too. Otakon has been a lot of fun. I interviewed quite a few interesting people. My favorite has to be the L with all the sweets spread out on the table. Also, the Batman villains group. Its always fun when the cosplayers are in character. :]The dealers room was pretty good this year. I didn’t think I would find merchandise of the manga series I love, Ichigo 100% (also known as” Strawberry 100%”). I was able to buy three plushies and three small figures. They’re so adorable, I just love them. The dealers room has a lot of mainstream things (Naruto, Death Note, and Bleach for instance) so I was very happy to find obscure things. The most random, obscure thing I found at the dealers room had to be a Deady plush. Deady is one of Voltaire’s characters. So as a big Voltaire fan, you can imagine how happy that made me :D The artist alley was filled with lots of cute, funny, and interesting things. I bought a dark Pan’s Labyrinth bookmark from Cari Corene. It has Ofelia and the faun on it. Definitely going to use it for manga andmwhen I reread the sixth Harry Potter book for the movie!On Thursday, I was amazed by how fast the Pre-reg line was moving. I was very impressed to see that Otakon kept things rolling smoothly. Overall, I really like this year so far. ^^ better had back to the con!

It’s Otakon’s fifteenth con at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore Friday. According to Otakon’s website, 19,989 heads have been counted as of 6:30pm Friday, short by nearly 3,000 from last year’s total count as of 22,852. The final count will be Sunday.This is our third time at Otakon and so far, we are enjoying our trip. We hope to bring you most of our coverage including our Otakon Report in the upcoming week.
George Carlin Dies at 71

According to the Associated Press, George Carlin died of heart failure in Santa Monica, California at 5:55pm PST. He went to the hospital because he was complaining of chest pain. He was 71 years old.

Today, we lost a well-known journalist who want people to know what’s happening in politics, Tim Russert, host of NBC’s Meet the Press; has died at the age 58. Russert suffered a major heart attack while preparing his show at the NBC News Bureau in Washington D.C. Russert had just came back early from his family’s vacation to Italy so he can do this Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press.
The New York Times report that at 3:39pm, former NBC Nightly News Anchor Tom Brokaw announced to NBC News viewers that his colleague has died.
“Our beloved colleague,” a grave Mr. Brokaw called him, one of the premier journalists of our time. He said this was one of the most important years in his life, with his deep engagement in the network’s political coverage, and that he “worked to the point of exhaustion.” Mr. Brokaw said Mr. Russert was a true child of Buffalo and always stayed in touch with his blue collar roots and “the ethos of that community.”
He said Mr. Russert had just moved his father, who is in his late 80s, from one facility to another in Buffalo. He said he loved his family, his Catholic faith, his country, politics, the Buffalo Bills, the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals.
“This news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice,” Mr. Brokaw said.
Russert, the longest running moderator for Meet the Press, has been with the show since 1991. Since then, he has formed of what is today known as Sunday morning government affairs program
As his death happens days before Fathers Day, he had written two books about his father and became a best-seller. In 1995, the National Father’s Day Committee named him “Father of the Year,” and Parents magazine honored him as “Dream Dad” in 1998, and in 2001 the National Fatherhood Initiative also recognized him as Father of the Year.
NBC News has planned to air a tribute to Russert on “Dateline NBC” on Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
Kelsey Grammer Suffers Heart Attack

Kelsey Grammer, television and movie actor, is relaxing in an Hawaii with his wife after he suffered a mild heart attack over the weekend. “Grammer experienced symptoms Saturday morning after paddle boarding with his wife Camille at their Hawaiian home,” according to a statement from Stan Rosenfield, the actor’s representative.

Since this week, WNBC-TV and WCBS-TV in New York experienced shake-ups this week with their news anchors.First off, WCBS-TV removed Jim Rosenfield from his anchoring role last Thursday. Replacing Rosenfield is Don Dahler to the noon and 6pm slots.Next is a huge shakeup at WNBC with their anchors, not only the evening newscasts were affected but also the morning newscast “Today in New York.” Rob Morrison, who has been in the weekday morning newscast since 2004, left the station over the weekend; no comments of why he left the morning newscast. This comes up after weeks that WNBC announced that it will have 24 hour news on its digital subchannel 4.4. According to the Daily News, Michael Gargiulo, who was the 5pm co-anchor, will replace Morrison. (Update: Gargiulo mentioned on air that Morrison is on vacation.)On the evening newscasts, you can now see Chuck Scarborugh and Sue Simmons three times a night; an effort to help organize the new news channel and boost ratings. Replacing Gargiulo is David Ushery, who anchored the 6pm newscast with Lynda Baquero who became a street reporter this week, will anchor with Sue Simmons, known for her f-bomb on a live teaser on May 12, during the half-hour 5pm newscast. At 6pm, Simmons will anchor with Scarborough, who have been anchoring the 11pm newscast on WNBC for the past 28 years. At 7pm, Scarborough will continue to anchor solo for the “New York Nightly News” newscast. And at 11pm, you will be able to catch “Chuck and Sue.”
